So, I've recently acquired a gray tree frog and was wondering if anyone on here has dealt with them before or has any tipe. I've gathered from my frog care book and online that their care is pretty similar to green tree frogs-they're just not tropical, so don't need as much heat or humidity. My dad found her outside-sort of beat up from a cat catching it, but she's doing better now. Already, she has eaten about 5 crickets and the funny thing is last year my friend found a gray tree frog also during a storm that was hurt and has been keeping it nicely since then. The problem is most of the animals and plants around here "woke up" from migrating and everything when it was warm the past few weeks, but now it's winter temps again and everything doesn't know what to do that's meant for spring lol-I've heard from various sources just to keep her in captivity now, she is better off for now. Anyways, I went out and bought a 5.5G for now, put some eco-earth mixed with repti-bark and moss for bedding. Got a stick for her to climb and put it in there-using a plastic container for water with a rock in it. I plan to get more plants and all in the next few days when I next go to a pet shop. I have some pics of her I took-I have a low-wattage bulb that produces a little light(nothing like a basking)for daytime heat and it's good to keep the day/night cycles. Also, she's pretty chubby lol and at least 3 inches! I know the females' can get bigger, but is it possible she's pregnant? I'm not sure, but she is pretty big! But, just coming out of winter-it could be "winter-weight" I guess too
Care is almost to the dot the same as Green tree frogs. See : http://www.frogforum.net/content/gray-tree-frog-care-breeding-120/ John knows his stuff, has multiple degrees, and is the most experienced frog handler I know.
Thanks guys! And cool-they seem pretty simple care, I was hoping you might come on here and say something Badger too-you're sort of the "frog guy" around here from my perspective lol That's a really nice caresheet too! I was looking for a good one, and that's cool you know the guy that owns those forums! Also, @Louie, you said they like corkbark-which I happen to have some of that came with a tank and I never used-I can cut it down to size now and use it
Thanks! I'm lucky I found her-she's doing well too! She eats crazy! lmao, they're known for being good eaters I'll try to get a vid of it soon.
Anytime, I'm just glad you're taking the time to learn how to properly care for your pets. Also, since I'm going to assume that the frog is wild caught, I suggest getting a stool sample and bringing it to your local vet for a float test, just in case he/she has parasites. If so, it could spread to your other frogs (and I think your anole, not sure). Oh, and I recommend switching the bark chips to Eco Earth or similar, due to impaction risks. Best of luck!
I have this guy in a tank by himself and I have already looked at bringing my other guys to the closest vet(still about an hour away)and it can't happen right now sadly. I already have some bark mixed in with eco-earth already-it's a layer of bark and then eco-earth. She's more of a surprise rescue lol, but she's turned out to be doing well so far! Yesterday I found her soaking and she's been eating whenever possible
