Dezzy has an abscess. I'm taking him to the vet today. The surgery only costs, what, $25? Well, his abscess is only a few days old *and thus pretty small*, so he should be alright. Other than the abscess, he's pretty healthy. He's a little skinny from the drop in temperature last week, but we corrected it soon enough. We're gonna go right about now, so wish us luck!
Fingers crossed you caught it in time. I know some people who have lost anoles after spotting an abcess - although they've usually been fairly big abscesses, so it's usually been too late. Let us know how it goes.
Just got back. Turns out it wasn't an abscess. Here's what the doctor said to me after his evaluation: "Ever heard of the gout?" He said this most likely has to do with the fact I'm feeding him crickets, since they are high in phosphorus *it's not the calcium dust; I got the phosphorus-free kind*. Also, this is an indicator that says Dezzy's kind of old. It may happen again, but if it does, I'll just call him back and there might be something I can do at home instead of taking him back to the vet's office. All he did was flush the knot out with some saline, then some water to help flush everything out of there. A little bit of water stayed in there, but he absorbed it pretty quickly.
Oh, and BTW, the whole thing cost $35; $25 for the normal check-up, $10 for the treatment. Not bad for treating the gout.
Glad to hear he's ok now, and that's a pretty decent price, I'd have thought it'd be more than that. Best of luck with him for the future
Yeah, we have a really good vet. I found him at herpvetconnections.com *or whatever it is*. Finally, someone in Indiana that knows more about green anoles than me! :-p He's very helpful, clear, to-the-point, and, most importantly, AFFORDABLE. In other words, perfect vet.
