it is most definitely not a python... it looks to be a gopher or pinesnake, maybe a bullsnake.

Looks like a Northern Pine Snake to me, but I'm not 100% sure.

I'm 95% sure that it's a Great Basin gopher. Identifying pits can be a little tricky. Are you planning on getting it?

sb1127 is absolutely right! I'd bet good money that's a Great Basin Gophersnake (P.c. deserticola). I have 2 WC future breeder females, and have seen several in the wild. We see them when we go road cruising the desert out here. They are absolutely wonderful snakes, gentle handlers, great eaters, and just make awesome pets!

Either a gopher or a ratsnake of some sort.

Did anybody else see this response and follow the link?? The add has a stolen picture from a well known breeders website. I am sure the guy placing the add is not John Cherry. The guy placing the add is most likely a slime ball. No wonder he didn't get back to you. It is not the snake picture that he is trying to "adopt" out. How much was the "adoption fee" for the animal and what area of the country was it in?? If it was from within the wild range of great basins it is probably a wild caught snake that some guy is trying to sell to an unwitting person.

I am in Washington State. the add was listed in the Seattle area Craigslist and he did not ask for a certain adoption fee. said "Please contact me for adoption fee and other info" he never responded.
