I am concerned that my anoles are staying brown most of the time. Or they are green with brown. I just took them all out the other day, cleaned the cage and rearranged. I have 7 in the tank. The tank measures 24" long x 12.5" deep x 18" high. Is this big enough or too small. Or do I have too many males and not enough females or what is it? I do see some dewlaping during the day and moving. I also have a Bahaman anole as well in there. Should I get a bigger tank? Get more females? Or leave them be.

Oh, the tank is staying around 90F during the day and havent monitored it at night. I also recently added a waterfall for them to drink from and to add humidity to the tank.

    Your help is appreciated.

I think your tank may be too small. Seven is way too many for that size. There should only be 1 male per tank. The ratio I was told was 1 male to 3-4 females. Do you have a cool side and a warm side? They need to thermoregulate. Watch the waterfall, they are breeding grounds for bacteria, that will need to be cleaned once a week. If they have mated, I have been told to separate the males from the females. The males can stress the females out.

Thanks for your reply. How many anoles should I have in that tank? What size of tank can I get that will allow for all of them to be together?

Yes, I do have a hot and cool side. Maybe the cool side should be cooler. Will look into other lighting fixture.

I also have a Bahaman in there with the green anoles, but when I try to put her into a smaller cage with 2 other Bahamans (1 male and 1 female) the other female chases this new one.

I usually allow 10G per anole. Of course more is better. Are you trying to breed them? If not I would keep the males in their own enclosures (1 per tank) and the females seperate. As long as they are together they can mate and create many offspring.

Oh, also, don't rearrange the tank, as this confuses the poor anole because it's used to it's territory, and will be upset and confused if it doesn't look right.
