HI ALL, I'M WONDERING IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME? I HAVE HAD TWO GREEN ANOLES ONE MALE AND ONE FEMALE FOR APPROX 6 MONTHS.THEY HAVE BEEN MATING FREQUENTLY AND THE FEMALE HAS LAYED A FEW EGGS OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS. I HAVE TRIED CAREFULLY MOVING THE EGGS AND PLACING THEM IN A TUB WITH HOLES, MOISTENED VERMICULITE AND GENTLY HEATING AT AROUND 84 DEGREES F. BUT AFTER A FEW DAYS THEY ARE DENTED AND CLEARLY COMPROMISED.I HONESTLY DONT KNOW WHAT I AM DOING WRONG,MY ANOLES ARE VERY HAPPY BUT THE EGGS JUST KEEP PERISHING, WHETHER THEY ARE IN THE CAGE OR THE INCUBATOR. I WOULD GRATEFULLY APPRECIATE ANY HELP REGARDING THIS SUBJECT THANKS PHIL
HI, from what I understand a dented egg isn't always a bad thing. I have had a lot of trouble with my eggs too. I am waiting to see if they hatch or not. Sorry I can't be more help to you.
Is it possible the vermiculite is too wet or dry? What is the humidity level in the incubator? My anole laid LOTS of eggs, but we only ever got 3 to hatch. Where are you finding them in the enclosure? Is she burying them or laying them on the surface?
IT DID DRY OUT A LITTLE BUT I TRIED TO KEEP IT AS DAMP AS I COULD WITHOUT IT ACTUALLY BEING TOO WET. IT WAS KEPT ON A HEATMAT AND HUMIDITY WAS NORMAL , I FIND THE EGGS (BURIED SINGELY)ALL OVER THE TANK. I WILL TRY LEAVING THE EGG IN THE INCLOSURE NEXT TIME HOPEFULLY SHE WILL LAY IT IN THE SOIL AREA WHICH I HAVE RECENTLY ADDED. HOW DID YOU HATCH YOURS?
We used a tupperware container with vermiculite in it. The vermiculite was moistened 50/50 by weight. We buried the eggs in the vermiculite just under the surface. The cover was on the container with some air holes punched into it and we incubated them at around 85 degrees. Ours were on a heating pad with a couple layers of towel under them (that was what we had to do to get the right temps). Hope this helps.
thanks alot for all your help hobo, but i guess i should let nature take its own course in future coz i am clearly no breeder! thanx to all who have helped me. phil
