I am new to this. I think my russian torts beak is getting very long. He can still eat very heartily I just don't think I want to get his beak trimmed because well I've heard too many horror stories about how vets trim the beaks to the point where they can't eat anymore. And I never want that to happen to my tort.

I have 2 Amazon parrots and one doesn't do a good job of keeping her beak trimmed. I use a large nail file for her. I have no idea if that is doable with the tortoise. Another thing I've seen, but never tried on the birds for fear they would get spooked and bite the hell out of me, is a nail file attachment on a rotary tool like a Dremel. That might work better on the tortoise.

I don't know a great deal about tortoises but just an idea... why don't you try feeding him something "hard" or "rough" like you give rats/mice to chew on to keep their teeth length down. I'm not sure what healthy "hard" foods there are though so I may be completely wrong lol.
