i know that some tortoises require some extensive care when compared to that of leopard geckos and such but are there any tiny tortoises that qualify as beginner types?

wat kind of terrarium size would be minimum for these kinds of animals?

p.s. im not looking to keep a tortoise anytime soon i was just wanting to know some more info on herps

Russians are one of the smaller ones, and no terrarium(aquarium). If you're dead set on using a glass aquarium then it's already more then you can handle at this point. There is so much that can go wrong that these reptiles really aren't a beginner reptile at all. Research, research, and research some more - you can't really expect anyone on a forum to do all the work for you.
If you do not have a source of income (there are some younger members here), I suggest against getting one as supplies and food itself adds up quickly. If you're mindset is "what's the minimum" you can get by with -wait or consider that this isn't the pet for you.

They take a bit of space, around 4'x6' minimum I do believe. Even better if you are able to provide an outdoor pen for at least the warmer months.

Have a lot of information aside from the basic care sheets that should give you a good idea how thorough and difficult tortoise care can be.

please note - I might sounded a bit rude, but it's just because I'm plain spoken/blunt. It's not me picking on you or anything. :)

i know you dont mean to sound rude

just that ive never thought about the shelled reptiles, as i prefer ones that are a little more lively

I think my russian is probably more active than the rest of my herps, don't be mistaken into thinking they don't do much.
This is porbably one of the better russian tortoise caresheets http://www.russiantortoise.org/care_sheet.htm

i guess that was a bad way of putting it, i like ones that are nonshelled to say..

dont get me wrong tho.. tortoises and turtles are the best "cute" things there are especially when theyre in the water (turtles)
