i was thinking of breeding my green anole in the future. i was wondering if other types of anoles could breed with him. like a cuban or bahama. does anyone know if this is possible.

Hey iggy, yes your green anole would breed with a cuban or a bahaman. But you wouldn't get off spring. The two species are close enough to breed but not enough to get a healthy off spring

i know someone that tried to breed a cuban with a green anole....and the results wre not good, he got the eggs to hatch...but the offspring were sort of deformed...and soon died two days later.....i wouldnt reccomend it.....

If you try and breed your green anole with a cuban or bahaman the offspring would NOT survive. Like bluedollars said, your anoles will mate, they will lay eggs, they will hatch, but they WONT survive. They are closely related enough to mate but not to have successful offspring.

We had one offspring hatch about 3 years or so ago from a green (male) x brown (female) anole pairing. It was perfectly formed when it hatched. Ate well for a couple of weeks, didn't grow anywhere near the rate a regular green or brown should've done and died at around 3 weeks of age.

This is the only confirmed hybrid of the two species I've seen personally, although I have heard similar reports from others. They're really not viable, like Paulito says.

Make sure they've got LOTS of UVB, that the humidity's good, and you might want to order some pinhead sized crickets.

Also, make sure you split them up from the parents if you haven't already. They can mistake them for prey and eat them.

Heres what you do to get them to mate... Turn the light off about 5 minutes earlier than normal every day every couple of days After about 2-3weeks, start slowly tuning it off 5 minutes later. Just in case im not clear, heres an example.. If you normally turn it off at 9:00, two days later turn it off at 8:55, two days later 8:50 etc. Its my "simulated winter" thoery which works, i did it twice and got them to breed twice.
