he will grow out of it when he's too large to fit in the lip any more You could try sealing around the edge of the lip with aquarium sealer, but make sure to let it air out & dry solid... You could also use a hot glue gun to fill in the gap there, but make sure to let it cool before you put the tank lid back on, you don't want the lid to stick down
