So here's the situation... Say in 5 years or so some guy discovers/creates a new morph of a reptile, we'll call it a spider-pied ball python. Say that guy worked in a research laboratory and had access to 'cloning stuff', and used his access to take DNA samples of the python and genetically engeneered some of his other pythons to mother more of the spider-pied balls, to hatch later in the same breeding season.

I know at this point it's basically all theroycrafting, but in reality a situation like this will deffenetly pop up... Probably in our lifetimes and probably sooner then we think. How do you think that cloning and genetic engeneering will effect the pet trade/reptile industry?

Im sure the state's will come up with laws for their local reptiles weather to be cloned or protected. Im betting a lot of the states will want to keep It natural.

There are a couple upsides. 1 is that less and less animals would be wild caught. That would be a great thing. The other side would be that the prices of "rare" morphs would come down, as they wouldn't be so rare anymore.
The downside is that nature doesn't usually take to tampering by man so well. So there could be some serious side-effects that will pop up. Look at how well nature functions in the areas of the world we haven't taken over. Everything has evolved to perfection on its own. Everything has a place, a purpose, etc. When we start tampering with that, who knows what the results will be.
