One of the babies seems very lethargic. We suspect it went too long without food while we were away (our friend really didn't know what to do with the hatchlings). I have moved it into a seperate enclosure with pinheads and baby food so we can keep an eye out and see if it's actually eating anything. It's staying a very pale beige though and will move aroun a little (quite quickly every once in a while). Is there anything else I can do for it or is it just a case of hope for the best? The other two are doing great... very active an eating lots. One of them does the push-ups and head-bob at us every so often when we look in on it. It even looks like it's trying to flare a dewlap, but no real colour there to tell for sure. Any suggestions for the quiet baby would be appreciated.
Well, normally anoles, and most other reptiles, won't eat until after their first shed. The first shed usually signifies the final absorbtion of the yolk sack. Could it possibly be dehydration? We used to mist our baby anole tank at least 2 or 3 times a day, and we also fed them pedialyte in an eye dropper. Just go with the plain, they're not really into the fancy flavours Other than that, I'm not really sure what to suggest. But dehydration seems to be the biggest killer of all types of young reptiles, so that'd be where I'd start
I'm misting the little guys enclosure 3 or 4 times a day right now to be sure it's getting enough. How do you feed them pedialyte? They're so small an those droppers seem so big in comparison. I don't want to end up hurting him. He seems a little better today, but not much. He may have eaten a couple of pinheads (or they could be hiding between the paper towel overlap where I can't see them right now.
Just slowly tease the pedialyte out the end of the dropper so that there's a drop hanging there. You can let a drop fall on their nose, they soon figure out what it is, and they get used to you holding the dropper and know to drink from it
