Today my brother found a baby western fence lizard (blue belly) and it is around an inch long, maybe a little less. We'd really love to keep it, despite knowing that taking it out of the backyard wasn't the best idea.

I'm willing to give it proper supplements, food, and an enclosure. I think keeping it as a baby rather than capturing an adult would be much less traumatizing for the little guy.

I don't want it to die of stress so I put it in a large shallow jar with a stick and some ivy leaves and covered it with a towel.

Again I really don't want it to die, and I really don't want to let it go. Any help is appreciated

EDIT No one has given me advice so I let the little guy go. I decided it was best for him anyway. I took him out of the jar and put him on the ground and he scurried off!

Aw, well he was very cute :) I'm a little glad that you let him go though.
