My tortoises are kept on a mix of washed and sifted play sand and sifted top soil,For about a week after i clean them out i still find lumps of soil.Just wondering if one of my lil guys were to eat one of these lumps would that cause them an impaction?????????

Possible. But this is why you must feed on dishes or on a piece of tile/flat rock, and supplement properly. Try to break up the larger clumps of soil the best you can with your hands.

There are several people and zoos that keep their tortoises and turtles outside and never have problems with impaction. Unfortunately for the health of some species it's not completely possible to avoid loose substrates all together.
