Hey everyone! Ok here's the deal, my boyfriend wants to get himself a corn snake. Problem is he's never owned a snake before in his life! So my question for you guys is NEED INPUT!!! Any info you can give me on owning and caring for a corn snake would be awesome!
Just wondering if something like this would be a good enclosure to use? http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4070851&keepsr=0&clickid=prod_cs
I think that enclosure would be just fine = ) I've always liked the exo-terra's, that one will make for a spacious home for the snake even as an adult. We actually have a lovely little Corn Snake database on our site, I think many of your questions regarding basic care and information about the snakes can be found here. Very quick, basic reads with some good info: http://www.reptilerooms.com/index.php?categoryid=20 These are cool snakes - very pretty, generally have very good feeding responses and take well to being handled and keeper mistakes. I'd say your boyfriends is making a good first snake choice in going with a corn snake. If you have any specific questions just let us know! We're here to help!
Well-I've been looking into getting a snake for a few months now and hopefully I'll have one by next year lol but, here are some good caresheets I've found in my searches: http://www.petsuppliesplus.com/AnimalCare/Reptiles/cornsnake.htm http://www.mypetsmart.com/care-guides/reptile/kingsnake-milksnake-corn-snake/setup-steps http://www.reptilechannel.com/care-sheets/corn-snake.aspx I also like to get Reptiles Magazine(http://www.reptilechannel.com/rmrc_portal.aspx) and I'll get care books(http://www.amazon.com/Corn-Snakes-Comprehensive-Herpetocultural-Library/dp/1882770706/ref=pd_sim_b_1) and I prefer the Herptocultural Library line They seem the most reliable to me-Hope I helped!
Having lived in Florida my entire life and been herping for over thirty years I have encountered four digits worth of corn snakes easy. They are the best first/starter snake you can get. Many color varieties and morphs, great dispositions, medium size (4ft average) and a wiilingness to feed make them a perfect pet. I hope it worked out for you. Cornsnakes.com is a great site for corn owners. Kathy and Bill Love, Charles Pritzel and Don Soderberg post.
Well we've got the whole set up now, he is still living with his parents (for about another 2 months) and his mom doesn't like snakes so he's going to wait till he moves out to get the snake itself. But I think we're all set up for it.
Cool Good to hear! It's like a 20G, right? Or if it's bigger, it's better! lol Is he thinking about getting a morph?
I have 51 Corn Snakes and the adults are in 20L or 56Q Sterilite tubs. Black(Anery A) and Charcoal(Anery B) are cool and can vary in coloring and patterns for individuality. I personally love Bloodreds and Butters! Enjoy this addiction/hobby!
