i am doing alot of advance research on torts because im hoping by the begining of next yr i will be getting one. i was looking at the small to med sized like hermanns, greek, russian. etc. and was wondering if they are a baby when they are small should they be kept in a smaller living space? the reason i am asking is i am planning on building a tort table that would house him/her when they are an adult size. another ? i have is what would a good size tort table be for a tort of the small to med size torts? thanks in advance for any and all help.
I'd say if you have the room go straight fo a full adult size enclosure. The size all depends on which tort you get for russians the absolute minimum is 4'x2' but the bigger the better (i'd say go atleast 12 square feet e.g. 6x2 or 4x3). Here are some instruction guides http://www.russiantortoise.org/tortoise_table.htm and http://www.unc.edu/~dtkirkpa/stuff/table.html
I'd opt for a russian, versus a greek as greeks can be a bit much for a first time owner. Good for doing research first! Definitely go as big as you can, they like to roam. And get your tort from a good breeder, like TurtlePimp.com I've sent a PM your way.
thank you both very much for the info that you have provided for me. sweet thank you for your pm its a big help. my idea for a tort table size wise was 5' long by 3' wide. hows that sound?
