my family and i was on vacation in florida 2-3 years ago and we were staying at a place with turtles. it apperead that we had just missed the big hatch because there were tons of babies running around. well this was before i had any real experience with herps so i caught 3 and brought them back to Va. they are yellowbelly sliders. they are my mom's turtles and she is gonna let them go because we don't have enough room. we think they'll be ok. allthough now that i think of it. if someone here would like them and could take care of them just PM me or leave a message. that would work better.

PLEASE do not release them into the wild - they could take captive disease to wild animals, take away precious food and space from other native turtles that were already there, die the first winter or be killed the first night, or a million other things. there are some wonderful herp adoption places that would be willing to find them a new home, but *please* (for their sake AND for the sake of the wild and the other animals they might come into contact with) do NOT release them into the wild!

here's a few reputable rescues i know of:

also, please consider posting this message at www.turtleforum.com *AND* www.turtletimes.com - there WILL be someone at these places who will take them!

i seriously doubt the zoo will take them. zoos usually don't take animals from the public due to disease, lack of space, the common-ness of most 'pets', and the fact that if they DID take an animal from a member of the public then they'd have to take ALL the public's unwanted animals. please check out the places, sites, and organizations i suggested. please.

Don't do any more wild catching. Thats all I have to say. You could have got a endangered species and be sent to jail, prison, or gigantic fine.

thats a good reason and thats why captive bred animals are offered. Taking animals from its natural habitat is wrong, unless it serves a beneficial purpose. i.e. scientists, etc..... but even then they should be returned the the spot you found them in a timely fashion
