The Vet in my city has never worked with bearded dargons before so she suggested that I take Koori (my BD) to the vet college in the neighboring City. She just needs a check up so its not too urgent but the vet college is almost 2 hours away... Any tips on how to keep my sweet Koori comfrotable for the long drive? Thanks Stacy
Transporting dragons is pretty simple. Grab a Rubbermaid type shoe box or tub and line the bottom with a towel. If it is cold, get a heat pack from Walmart (usually sold as hand warmers in the sporting goods section) for the trip. You might want to wrap the heat pack in a wash rag depending on the type you use. Those used for shipping reptiles (rated at 40 or 60 hours) usually get around 130 to 140 degrees while the hand warmers do not get as hot.
thanks for the help Koori and I got stranded because of a blizard on our trip to see the vet. luckly those hand warmer type things kept her warm and happy during our extended stay in the city. I bought the ones designed for womens cramps -they stuck to the outside of her little pet carrier so she could be kept warm without risk of getting sick from the chemicals in the warmer. She seemed to really enjoy them too. Anyway for all the trouble getting her to the vet and the not so fun blood work they did... she's looks fine... All they suggested doing was warming up her sleeping area and getting a thermometer to watch her temp. So hopefully thats all the traveling we'll do until I move closer to the university. Thanks for the help Stacy and Koori
