Im not sure exactly...but 100-200 roaches should be more than enough to get a good colony started for you

Ive never bred crickets before so i dont know. I've always just kept crickets till they die...i only breed mealworms, superworms, and roaches

They will breed the same way you house them.

Tub of oatmeal...slices of potato or fresh veggies for moisture every couple of days.

They will turn to pupae - then to beetles - then lay eggs - which will hatch and turn into more worms.

Yes - roaches, mealworms, crickets, silkworms - all excellent feeders

can you feed a main diet of mealworms or does it have to be variety because i used to feed just crickets and some mealworms.but can it be the other way and i just feed mealworms and some crickets?

I use almost all mealworms, then the odd time some waxworms, and throw in a few supers once in a blue moon. Crickets, NEVER! Hopefully I will get phoenix worms soon though

Variety is always best - although as long as you are using a good quality feeder and gutloading properly then you can raise them on primarily one insect.

i have one leo who pretty much refuses anything but mealies...no roaches, no crickets, no butterworms....SOMETIMES I can trick her into accepting a silkworm - but thats a rare occasion. All my mealies are well gutloaded and she is a thriving, fat happy gecko.

Or if you have a breeder close by they can sell you all different types of food for your leo.

Mealworms are the easiest to gutload!

Take a tupperware container - fill the bottom with an inch or two of oatmeal. Toss the mealies in. They will burrow in the oatmeal and feed on it and gutload themselves. Every couple of days drop in some potato slices or lettuce/leafy greens for moisture. Make sure to monitor the oatmeal for any mold caused by the veggies - if any mold appears you nbeed to throw away the colony.

You can also mix in some bran flakes or wheat germ as well.
