my yelloe bellied slider is laying eggs

My yellow bellied slider turtle I was told was a male, but turns out she is female. She layed her first egg this morning and this evening she crushed it. I need to know why she crushed it and why is she laying eggs without a mate?

 

I don't have the inforation to help you, but I am going to move this to the turtle forum where you will likely get more answers from people who keep turtles.

 

She will lay eggs whether or not she has a mate. The eggs will not be fertile though.
