hi i just got a female green anole for my male. i don't know what to name her and i want to know about breeding.
Did you quarantine her? Its best to quarantine for a long healthy Anole. Breeding is easy actually. the problem is finging homes for them all. http://www.reptilerooms.com/Sections+index...d-8-page-1.html
no i didn't. i probably should have now that i think of it but its been about two months since i put her in with my male and everything seems to be ok. i have been watching them very closely. i am sooooo confused on the head bobbing pre-mating thing. my female keeps boobing her hear to my male and once he did bob back but then they just sat there. any ideas for names?
Are you sure that its a female? Did you check the post anal scales to see if it was a male? Is there a Bulge at the base of the tail? Or you could give us pictures for us to confirm it.
my camera is only a 1 mgp so there is no way to tell. so should i just look for a bump at the base a the tail?
Like plmarsq8 said, you need to make double sure about the sexes. Here are a few tests you could carry out. 1) White stripe test. This one is about 50% reliable. Both males and females may have a white or gray mid-dorsal line or stripe. A large percentage of juveniles of both sexes have a stripe but most males lose it when they mature. However, this is not always the case and to complicate things further a large percentage of females never exhibit a white stripe. 2) Head shape test. This one is only slightly more reliable. Males will have a proportionately larger head as they grow older. That doesn’t help with immature specimens, though. Head shape is generally variable between the sexes and is unreliable. 3) Post-anal scale test. This is a very reliable test. Viewed from the underside, look for a pair of enlarged post-anal scales. You might need slight magnification for this. Quite simply, males have them, females don’t. 4) Hemipenile bulge test. Mature males have paired bulges at the base of the tail to accomodate the hemipenes (male sex organs). Females don’t have any bulges there. 5) Veternarian test. This one is 100% accurate. Have a vet probe your Anole to determine sex.
