So, what do you suggest, use, or have experience with? Digital thermometers with a probe or an infrared thermometer? (I didn't forget digital hydrometers, but a combo infrared and hydrometer will run you $35, and that was on Ebay.) I realize that digital thermometer you'd need 2 (ideally) and they are right there in the tank (not very aesthetically pleasing), but infrared's you have to deal with batteries and heck even loosing it.
