Are it's eyes cloudy? When was it's last shed? How old is it? When did it last feed? Remeber snakes can go a month or more without food and be perfectly fine.

I have heard that kings like to go into a hibernation over the winter occasionally if the temps go down, but that probably isn't the case.

If it's shedding, it won't eat. What kind of snake is it, just curious.

He won't eat when he is shedding. And is probably the reason he is hiding. They don't like being bothered at this time. Leave him alone until he is done and he'll be happier for it.

I'm not sure. It might be hard to tell if he's shedding from pics.

Your snake is definitely shedding. You may want to increase the humidity in his cage a bit over the next week until he sheds. Or take a smaller plastic container, cut a hole in it so he can get in and out, then add bedding, water, and a rock (so he can scrape off his shed). You are basically making a miniature sauna. Leave this in the cage until he sheds.

My cal king always has a hard time shedding if I don't do this.

It definently won't eat if its shedding, my king sheds once a month, just about and its six years old.
