anoles demand alot of small much like the iguana they like to climb and need a rather big cage i think a 5 foot tall is what is suggested and your not really supost to hold them to much cuz they get scared i think that they are more of a pretty lizard but dont hold me to that info the only anoles that i have had were the ones you catch outside and i only kept them for a short while before letting them go again

Anoles are infact a pretty expensive critter to keep.

Yes, they are Diurnal, which is the scientific word for the opposite of nocturnal, ie they are active during the day.

They may be very cheap to buy, but their setup can be rather expensive. They need UV lighting, heating costs can be high also, and you'll also need to keep their humidity levels reasonably high.

They are a great little lizard to keep, but are for show, not good for handling.

So are you serious about an anole? They are great pets, and any more questions, please feel free to ask!!

i understand that you can not hold them, i am pretty serious about getting one, just because i have a leopard gecko and that he doesn't come out much, so i want to get something that i can watch during the day too. my mom siad that i have to wait a little bit,(untill i fully know how to care for my leo, but she just wants to make sure that it will grow up saftely first.) i understand that they cost more to tke care of, than they themselves cost. i will do reasearch before buying it, i understand that they need 10 gallons a anole,. i have a few questions, " i now taht they need special lighting, you said UV, are UV, and UVB the same thing? how hight should their humidity be? and should there be a warmer and cool side of the cage for body heat regulation, like a leo's cage? thank you austin

Humidity depends on the species that you choose of the most common green anoles prefer about 50% or greater and brown anoles prefer around 50% and up also, but rarer species sometimes prefer different amonts because of where they come from. It's best if they do have a warm and a cool side but with a ten gallon its a little hard to do, that's why I'd recomend at least a 15-20gal tank. I agree about the no petsmart/petco bought anoles, I've had better luck with accidentally buying two feeders from at an expo, the petco bought one died within a month under the same conditions as the feeders which are now in a twenty gallon terrarium instead of both being dead in a predators stomach.
    Good luck and have fun!

treeafodo- my Leo didn't come out until i started turned my lamp off. I also noticed if you get a heat pad they will lay on that all day-at least that is what mine does. And for all the people that say they need a lamp on, no they don't. the light is for vitamin D3, which you can get out of ReptoCal sprinkle. Just try some experiments to get him out. and do green anoles really need a 5 foot high cage?

Leo's and anoles have totally different care requirements. For starters, anoles WILL need lamps. They will need one for heat, and one for UV rays. Anoles are arboreal, they are not ground dwellers like leos and so do not spend much time on the ground, like leos do. They therefore need a heat source which will heat the majority of one side of the enclosure, and an incandescent bulb works perfect for that. I just wanted to stress that UVB lighting is neccessary for the well-being of anoles.

the reason why my leo didn't come out at night was because he was sick and he eventually died, i got a new leo, and she comes out at night, she's awesome

anoles are anything but cheap, I have a 30 gallon tank with two UVB 2.0's 2 UVB 15w nightlights a UVB spot lamp and a heater on the bottom of my tank, after purchasing lighting fixtures, timers, hydrometer/thermometer, coconut husk fiber, cork bark, driftwood, plants from black jungle terrarium supply, cricket enclosers, vitamins, gut load for the crickets, a spray bottle, a little dripper, and all the other crap that weekly might arise I've put over $400.00 into my tank and my tank with stand was free because my brother gave it to me so yes green anoles can be very expensive indeed as can any pet but they need all those things for their own well being and its very important to have all those things, as for the enclosure bigger is always better no matter how you look at it, a 10 gallon might be suitable but anoles like lots of hiding spaces and things to climb on and the more "decor" you put in a tank the less tank you actually have for the animal itself, my tank is 100% live everything and out of the 30 gallons with all the stuff in it I have 15 maybe 20 gallons of open space and now that I have three baby anole hatchling's I'm considering buying a 65 gallon for the adults and keeping the hatchlings in the 30 gallon until they are sexed ...thats about another $1000.00 worth of plants bulbs and tank lol
