I have been considering getting a green anole as a pet. I was just wondering if you guys could tell me a little about why they make such good pets. Can you handle them? The ones in the pet store near me seem very active.

They make great pets that are fun and active as long as you provide for the proper husbandry. They may themselves, be inexpensive but their care and enclosures cost much more. To answer your first question, you should not handle them.
-Each anole needs at least 10 gallons to themselves but 15-20 is much better for them. They are arboreal, so height is more necessary than ground space. Also, they need lots of leaf cover. you can provide with real or fake but IMO fake is easier to care for.
-You need a basking bulb and a UVB bulb for their lighting. 90 degrees on their basking spot is perfect. and 70-80 on the cool side. But electronic thermometers. they are the most accurate out there.
-You can feed everyday or every other day with crickets, leafhoppers, flies, anything that they can eat without pesticides and is smaller than the length between their eyes. and you should dust their food every other feeding.
    - For substrate, Organic potting soil period. No bed-a-beast either. No bark chips, gravel, or sand at all.
    - Keep the humidity fairly high at 80-90 level and spray their cage daily because they drink the water droplets so no water dish is necessary.

Thats it for the most part. if you can provide for this, then you may be able to purchase these animals. They are more expensive compared to the overall price than some other pets.

Can they not be tamed though? All reptiles aren't very fond of being handled at first. They get used to it over time.

No, if you want something that can be handles alot, look for a hamster. Anoles cannot be tamed even if people say they can. Or try a crested gecko.

Ok. I want just asking seeing as i've seen quite of few posts on here where people have said they handle their anoles. Hamsters are not of much interest to me. I have two leopard geckos and was just looking into other reptiles. Thank you for your help.

If you wanted a reptile you could handle, seeing you have a leo already, maybe you could try a crested gecko? It depends how much you have and space etc, but if it is a case of you searching for any reptile, post in the general lizards forum, you will probably get a wider range of opinions.

As for anoles, i have two of them, and personally i think they are great pets and a really nice species to keep.

As far as handling goes though, they really should not be handled. It stresses them out easily and they are very fragile. More of a look but don't touch pet. Some say anoles can be tamed, but i decide not too as i don't want to stress / injure my pets.

yes, crested geckos are awesome for handling. along with 3 anoles, i do have a creted in the tank next to theirs, and he is very fun to play with, even sits at night and watches tv with me sometimes haha.
