For those of you that don't get Reptiles Magazine, here is part of an article in the December 2002 issue that I think you should read.

“Right now, there are groups, such as the Humane Society of the United States, lobbying for the extinction of the pet industry. Ultimately, the goal of such groups is to eliminate the keeping of animals in captivity, with the possible exception of approved dog and cat breeds. These groups are slowly constrictions our industry at every level through a variety of ways, including getting new laws passed and increasing shipping restrictions. Organizations such as the Humane Society know that if they can get laws or restrictions passed against particular species of retiles, then they can use the same laws and restrictions to go after bird enthusiasts, topical fish enthusiasts and others in the pet industry. The Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council {PIJAC} has helped to stave off many proposed laws against our industry. PIJAC is our voice in Washington and should be supported . By joining PIJAC, you will at least be kept informed through updates of what will directly impact your hobby or business. Your membership only adds to our strength in Washington, too, so join today! PIJAC can be contacted at 1220 19th Street NW, Washington, DC 20036; (202)452-1525; e-mail: info@pijac.org.”
