hey everyone! ive been wanting some tree frogs for a long time.....i have a bunch of herp equipment so i figured now was as good a time as any. so here's what i have: a 20 gallon tank w/ wire lid, UV fixture and bulb, 15 watt night glo bulb (blue hughe is cool) w/ fixture and some vines and fake plants. really all i need is some substrate, crickets and the frogs... so my questions are: how may green tree frogs can i fit in a 20 gal? 2 or 3? and which is better the coconut fiber stuff or reptile carpet/astroturf? thanks!

i would say for this type of froggie 6gallon per frog. but that is just me. if they are the siz of a fbt. i would say 4per toad.

I would say 3 tree frogs in there. Also, The substrate matters on you. Coconut fiber is harder to clean than astroturf but is more realistic looking

Never use astroturf with treefrogs. They have very sensitive stomaches and that stuff can rip them apart! As far as the number of frogs, I would say three to four maximum. There are a whole lot of recipes you can find for substrate, I put down gravel, lay a screen over it, put down charcoal, lay a screen over it, then I just use soil.

Some soils can be too acidic for amphibians

    4 part cocofiber
2 part shredded/ chopped sphagnum moss
    1 part reptile bark
    1 part leaf litter
    -----------------------

natural dirt and frog poo acts like a fertilizere for any plants you wanna put it in there.... never have to clean it.. it is like a natural biome!

and to make sure your plants dont drown when they get their roots in the abunch put a layer of gravel at the bottom of the tank do all that access water drained to the bottom and not stay in the soil make root rot.

zuberok,so what your saying is that by having
    4 part cocofiber
2 part shredded/ chopped sphagnum moss
    1 part reptile bark
    1 part leaf litter
you can jus put in some soil and you dont have to be worried about cleaning the frog poo because it will jus become fertilizer for the real plants you have in there, jus wanna know if i got this right cause it sounds interesting and something i might wanna try.thanx.

You are right. peat moss is in fact too acidic to be safe with my amphibians but nobody was really talking about peat moss.

But you were talking about acidic substrates.
