Hello everyone, I'm starting new post to introduce you the "tenants" of the uroVIVAstyx. uro#1 and uro#2 (we didn't choose a name yet, since we want to see how they behave first) When we came back with them, the 2 dogs (Mika the Doberman and Molly the Dachshund) knew something suspicious was in the bags... We put the 2 uros in the vivarium right away. As soon as they landed on the sand they started roaming everywhere, exploring the first level. The the "tan" one, found the basking site in about 30 seconds and decided to ... bask The "green" one was more active and was roaming everywhere. Molly was trying to look in the vivarium, and every time her nose was showing up at the glass level, the "green" uro was running toward her to see what it was... The "tan" one, was looking at the scene with a "relaxed" look. It took about 5 minute, before greenie looked at the real plants and decided to take a bite... (I was expecting that, but not today...) So we removed the plants, but every time we took one plant off, greenie was running to the next one. We went in our yard and picked up some dandelion + clover leaves and hand fed them. They accepted the greens right away!!! Then, we left them alone for the rest of the evening. Brownie stayed on the basking site all the time. Greenie was roaming, climbing, running everywhere and eating all the time. From time to time, it was going back under the basking light... They also did some "poop"... When I turned the light off for the night, both uros looked around for about 30 second, Brownie went crawling under the basking site to sleep and greenie went to sleep squeezed between the basking slate and the side glass, in a vertical position. Brownie is a female. About 6-7 years old. Greenie is "probably" a female. About 4-5 years old. They haven't figure out the "access ramp" yet. That's it for tonight. Cheers! Jay
Finally after 4 long months of waiting! I was wondering where you got your Uros from, are they long time captives? Anyways great work man!
Re: RE: uroVIVAstyx : The uros are in da house!!! thanks for the feedback!! After 4 months.... yeah, the project got bigger than I expected I live in Montreal, Canada. I got them from magazoo. It's a store that specializes in reptiles. I don't know how long they had them in store... I went 2 months ago to the store to get some info, and most of the uros were different. However, I can't tell if those 2 were there at that time. I didn't ask at the store... ============================= Morning update: ============================= Well the first night is over. Brownie slept right under the lower slate and greenie squeezed between the slate and the glass. When I sneaked this morning I thought: "sh....t they're dead?!?!", then one of them open its eye and closed them right away... I hope they find the hides today... If not, should I wait a bit more, or install some new hides? the space between the sand and the slate is between 1 to 2 inches. Is that all right? talking about greenie and brownie. I really have to think of decent "french" names for them Jay
Welcome to your 2 new Uro's. It has been fantastic watching your project take shape. Thanks for all the pix and updates. Your Uro's look great. Let us know what you name them, and how they act within the awesome environment you've created.
thanks Nines, here's the uro's status so far... The exploration of the vivarium continue. ----------------------------------------------------------- Greenie went downstairs on its own yesterday, but went up after a minute. He had a look like : geee.... is this another world .... lol The uros spent their first night underneath the basking site. Yesterday I "helped" them to discover one of the big hide. They slept in it. I have a picture of "greenie" in it, taking a look outside this morning, but I can’t upload the pic right now (maybe tonight) after 2 days, here’re my impressions: Greenie: - hyperactive - exploring a lot - EATING EATING EATING - basking with brownie Brownie: - less active than Greenie (a lot) - Exploring a bit - Always on the basking site. - Once it discovered the hide around 21h00, it stayed there for the night. I didn’t see it eat yesterday. I guess this might be because is settling in??? I’ll see tonight. Jay
here a pic of "greenie" (still haven't found a name) in one of the big hide. Doesn't it look like a turtle Jay
Looks good, nice to hear the Uros are in good shape. You got them at Magazoo? I haven't been there in ages. Ill have a look at their animals if they're in good shape. I've been volunteering at Nature Pet in Pte Claire, its my last weekend this week. I would worry yet about the tan one, she's probably just settling in. Name one of them Alcan?
Hello sweet_sorrow123, Yes I got them at Magazoo. Their animals seems fine, but since I'm a total newbie in this domain you better check it out yourself... In my case, this was the only place that I was aware of that seems ok... Thanks for the advice. I still didn't see the brown one eating by itself in the food bowl, but it accepted green beans, corn and peas from my hand Jay
I think both uros are already starting to put on some weight. They seems more "chubby". The brown uro slept downstairs and the green one upstairs. I think they spent their day on their own level. They was 2 salad bowl with greens / veggies (macedoine) / clover leaf / dandelion / fruits and both bowl were almost empty. So I guess they both eat like pigs Again both uros accept to be handfed without any problem. So far they don't seem to appreciate carrots ... Jay
Hello Hello, Great to see your 2 uros are doing so well! Super job on the 2 story enlosure also! You spent alot of time, effort & money on them & it shows. They look very content. Tracie
RE: Hello Thanks Tracie, as you said, lot of time and money, but a lot of fun too!! greenie is now more like bright yellow!! brownie is more active now and started to eat more. I'll post new pics soon when we've decided the names
RE: Hello just curious what species is "greenie" I am having trouble identifying it from the pictures?
Re: RE: Hello Both are supposed to be Mali's. Right now, it is more like a bright yellow. I'll try to post a better picture of it tonight... Jay
Hello Hello, Yeah, definitely whenever you get time, post more pics. They are very pretty. Do you handle them often? Tracie
Re: Hello not really. I handfed them once a day (1 or 2 piece of green or veggies). I took them twice to show them the "2 levels" of their enclosure. I want them to settle in without too much stress... BTW: uro poop smells bad. any recommendation to reduce the smell? Jay
RE: Re: Hello Uro poop should not smell....It sounds like they could have coccidia. I would get a fecal sample and take it to your vet just to be safe. If they do have coccidia, you will have to medicate them.
more pics... a quick post to show the uros... maybe you'll be able to confirm if both uros are Mali... PS: for the smelly poooo... The odor was gone. Probably they just did their thing just before I openned the viv...
