8) i just bought a female water dragon i want to know if i need to have a male for her to breed and i want some breeding tips
that doesn't really help in a magazine called reptiles it says you can have them lay eggs without a male i just wanted a gwd breeders opinion
dont believe everythign in a magazine.. because this one magzine said that the dog called a Doodle will not have gen. problems! when thats wrong! but really you do need a male and a female to reproduce!
The females will lay eggs even if a male is not around. However, as pointed out the eggs are infertile if the female has not mated with a male. If you read anything else contrary to my statement in a magazine there was a mistake or miscommunication of some type. Female water dragons DO NOT lay fertile eggs when housed alone or with only other females.
females could lay fertile eggs in rare cases( very rare) it can happen. it's a sort of mutation or adaptation that can happen. i read somewhere that someones lizard laid fertle eggs and they did'n have a male.
OK, this is very strange... waterdragon, cld you give me the exact issue and title of the article which talks about females spontaneous fertilization? I'd like to verify and get the sources of this article. I know that there are hermaphoditic earthworms which under extreme circumstance can fertilize its own eggs, but Never heard of any higher species doing this. Iggy lover - Cld u try to remember where you read your story too??? (i've got my masters degree in animal biology and I'm REALLY curious!)
