Feeder Roaches are the easiest, and they are healtheir than crickets, mealworms, and superworms. No one knows which is healthier between feeder roaches and silkworms though.

Silkworms are awesome, and though I haven't tried it yet, sound very easy to breed.

Not by a long shot, Silkworms are very difficult to raise.

xile - Have you tired to raise silkworms? Do you know how hard they are?
I am sure your first time will be hard but after you know what you are doing i am sure it will be easy.

I've been doing it for over a year and I have to disagree completely.

you would save so much money in shipping if you breed your own...
did it take some getting use to wideglide?
did you get a kit or just do it yourself?

It did take some getting used to and figuring out a good routine for me but I jumped right in and started off with over 50 coccoons. If you just want to maintain a good stock of eggs breeding 10 every once in a while should be plenty. Just to give you an example of how many you can obtain I've got about 15,000 eggs now + or - a couple grand :D .

I didn't buy a kit. I didn't see any available when I started breeding. Silkies seem to have just been getting popular about 4 months ago or so. FYI, I've never put on a pair of rubber gloves when messing with my silkies. Things need to be somewhat clean but not like what I've read on some caresheets. I may clean out a container twice during a colony's lifespan where I've seen it recommended to move small silkies into a sterilized container every single day!!! Screw that!!

Yeah, I only do the glove thing when they are microscopic tiny, I'm a germaphobe so I'm just imagining germs and bacteria being so much more to them, I can't help it. Once they are bigger and turn white (1-2 weeks) I stop. Never had a problem.

Honestly, it depends on what your definition of "best" is. I have both hissers and silkies. Roaches I find easier (never had a whole colony die from a little bit of condensation as with silkies) but silkies I find personally a little better in the long run, just cuz they take up less space, and don't give me the heeby-jeebies. :)
