Hello, For years I have heard that if a Tortoise falls on its back it can die! Please, please please can some one tell me is this true or not? p.s, If it is, For how long can they survive?
It can die, But is dependant on type and circumstance. If a tortoise over turns and can't self right (most can if they can get puchase on something). If overturned under a heatlamp or outside can overheat. Also when overturned can panic, vomit and urinate which can cuase dehydration and they can possible choke. I also causes more stress on the lungs.
Sorry, reading that back it might make you worry more than neccersary. Most of time they are ok for hours. I have found mine will just go to sleep on the ocassion he has manged to get on his back and not able to self right. just need to be aware it's a risk.
lol...they fall asleep upsidedown. mine would do that. i think my sulcata is narcoleptic. he just walks around then !BAM! hes out like a light. falls asleep in the middle of a step sometimes lol.
