Do tegus tend to eat less during their shedding? Mine has been eating less, as a matter of fact I put a fuzzy in the enclosure yesterday and I have never seen a fuzzy mock a lizard like this...the fuzzy would run up and smell the tegu's snout and my tegu would do absolutely nothing...just sat there...it could be that he might have been full from a day or 2 before, but is this a normal occurence? Just felt bad for my tegu, cuz the mouse was just testing him....i was like "c'mon just open ur mouth, it's not that much work, he's only 1cm away from you..." lol
most animals eat less during shedding, but i am not sure about tegus. most monitors do not so i would assume most tegus dont, but again i am not sure
my tegus sometimes eat less when theyre shedding, i think its just uncomfortable for them, maybe a little stressfull, ive seen plenty of lizards act this way though, its not a problem or anything. ive heard about this happening often in heloderm's, and since theyre the the closest relative to a tegu maybe theres a connection there, maybe not, who knows? - Nomad
My albinos still eat like pigs when in shed. My bigger girls haven't shed while I've had them so I won't know for awhile.
My Arg. Tegu's slow down a bit and feed heavily immediately after. They don't go completely off their feed when shedding, they just eat less.
mine r pigs and dont slow down or stop eating for anything. although, my BIG savanna monitor used to fast for whole summers and not eat anything for 2.5 months during the summer months, which scared me senseless bcuz he is a longtime pet. he did this about 5 yrs after i bought him all of a sudden kept this routine for 5 more yrs than stopped as quickly as it started and lived 6 more yrs without doing it. so i wouldnt lose any sleep over it dude, reptiles r known to go a loooooooong time btween meals in the wild.
