Hello Guys, I'm just getting interested in gecko's breeding. now I got this gecko which i'm confused with his sex i got him since he was 2 months old, now he's 1 year 5 month old he does have a buldge as in pic but if you hold him like this, it doesn't have preanal pores, and the buldge seems unoticeable is there any other methods determining gecko sexes? thx before
I think it's a female.... the bulges should be pretty obvious without pulling back on the tail, and there are definitely no V shaped pores. Kelly
Yeah I was thinking lifting the tail doesn't make it that acurate the second pic is better way to do it.
wow, it means i need a male now. guys i've another question. does all males must have preanal V pores? is there any other method sexing them? because i've tried asking another forum and the answer quite confusing, some tells me it's a female but some says it's a male. and some of them even mention that the important part is the buldges not the pores because some of the male doesn't have a V pores until they really old. does mine old enough? thx for the help guys
Male leopard geckos are sexually mature at about 7-8 months old.. that one being over a year old and with no pores is definitely a female. Usually you can tell a geckos sex at around 2-3 months of age depending on size.
Your gecko is plenty old enough..... it's clearly a female. Lifting up the tail backwards is not a reliable way to see the bulges.... they should be very obvious even from the side when the male gecko is at rest. If you saw a male gecko the same age you would know yours is a female. I will get a picture of my 1 year old male and you will see. Kelly
Okay so I've taken some pictures of my male and female, both are no more than 1 year of age. Here is the male. Very clear pores and bulge and also quite a gap from the vent to the first "crease" (not sure what to call it) From the side: And here is the female: And for fun: Male Pebbles Female Lizzie
