I'm interested in the laws in my area, I live in Portland Oregon USA. The shops where I live don't carry many reptiles. The exotic reptile show comes to town they sell everything. I'd like to know if what I'm buying is against the law? Thanks..
Probably the best place to start would be your local fish & wildlife website. You might also want to think about joining a local herp club, if one exists. There's the Oregon Herpetological Society website, you might be able to get some more info there on the local laws (you may not, I don't know, I didn't have a browse around it), but it might give you some people you can talk to for more info.
