Well I have been searching over the internet for the past hour or so. I am looking for a type of snake.

I have found out on this forum and some others that the rosy boa and corn and rat snakes. are a good choice. They are quite beautiful snakes i might add.

I want something smaller to start out in a 20 gallon tank. And move up a couple months later.

I know you all are probably getting tired of the "What snake should i choose?" threads. But i would vary much appriate your help.

To make it simple my questions are:
    What snakes are good starters?
    What snakes are active?
What snakes are easy to care for?
What is an average size cage?
Can snakes be kept in aquarium tanks?
And what are the cost of the snakes that you could list?

For price you could just give me a good site, if you don't wish to research.

    Thank you.

i started with kenyan sand boas, can be kept in a 20 gal for their entire lives, about a 3-4 foot max length. orange with black spots and a white underbelly. can get them for about $65 american or $45 at most expos. Just give an undertanks heather and a het bulb of low wattage.

If you want a reletivly active snake that is easy to care for and can be housed in a 20 gal for a while i would say to go with a nice lil corn snake. You can get them for real cheap at just about any petstore, expo or breeder. Eventually they will need a 30 or 40 gal aquarium. (just make sure it has a screen top) They are just awesome snakes. i love mine! :D

i think you can get a corn for aroun $40 americans right? some places maybe cheaper and this is retail pet store prices. And there are a ton of color morphs that will increase the price and such but pretty cheap i have never seen one for over $100 americans.

    Re: RE: Snake Concerns

snakes and lizards have far different prices and conditions as well as over all price to care for them. Food is mainly cheaper for snakes, i spend $1.00 a week per mouse while i spend $0.08 per cricket for my lizards and my boys need quite a few crickets every few days.

Okay......i know this is going to sound stupid

but what exactly do you need?
    ((corn))
i want to add up cost. i know it's going to be $40 or 50 americans for the snake.

    a heater?
a little home (( which you can just use anything))
i have a ten gallon tank. do you need a top when they are hatchlings?
    some aspen chips?
    a little pool?
    maybe a background paper.
some plants? if so what kinds. and fake or real?

    one more thing

should i get a hatchling or a juvie?

what's the difference if there is any?

here are some of the colours i'm looking for.

red and orange seem to be the normal most comment colours so that may be what i'm with in the end. I don't mind it, but you know how it is.

I would prefer one of these.

Ghost Stripe (( this is a hatchling right? if so i want one about his size))

not sure about heater, little home can be anything, i think they need a top yes, chips that are finely shredded, just use a small cup, i have neevr used background paper for any of my animals, and as for plants, use fake plastic ones just to make the cage look pretty. very basic snake, the money stackls when you want to get a pretty cage and stuff added to it
