I've split this off from the other topic, as it was irrelevant over there. You should really start making your own threads if you have questions, and not go randomly posting questions in other peoples threads, as it is very rude. Males have enlarged femoral pores, females don't. Hm, you need to be a bit more specific, all bedding made for reptiles could be class as reptile bedding, so what sort are you asking about?
I find the best substrate for these guys to be coco fiber. It holds a moderable amount of humidity too, which is what these guys need.
Defently no sand , as far as bark goes, if the tokay swallows it, it may be deadly but I used it for years and know alot of other people who have used it for years without problems, I observed them accidently picking some up will going for a cricket and they always spit the bark out. I personally feel coco fiber works best for tokays and alot of other tropical species.
i agree with HerpinVerts i once had a Tokay and it swallowed a peace of bark and i wasn't home at the time and when i got back it chocked to death... it was a painful moment for me
My prefered substrate to use with Tokays is coco-nut fiber (such as eco-earth, bed-a-beast etc) because it holds mositure well and has a low risk of impaction. Substrates such as paper towels, shelf liner etc are fine as well - just make sure you mist frequently to keep the humidity up.
