regular black lights (like the kind you use to make special posters and other objects "glow") do not produce the right wavelengths to do any good with reptiles. they bulbs have to emit light in the 290 to 320 nanometer range. i don't know if regular black lights will harm reptiles, but they certainly aren't helping them. why not just get a fluorescent tube-type reptile uv bulb from the petstore? not only am i sure that the petstore type won't hurt your animals, but i also know that they will help your animal.

The black light can and will harm your reptilian pet's eyes.

i could be wrong, but i believe it only harms the eyes of *nocturnal* reptiles and amphibians.
